The Illinois Library Association (ILA) is asking library supporters to help raise awareness and support for House Bill 5236: The Digital Library Protection Act.
HB 5236 addresses challenges libraries face when licensing e-books, digital audiobooks, and other digital materials. Unlike physical books, digital materials are licensed through contracts that may include pricing or access restrictions that limit how libraries can provide digital content to their communities.
The bill is expected to move forward to the full Illinois House of Representatives, and ILA is encouraging library supporters to contact legislators to express support.
